The Best Men's Pants for Summer 2026, Worn and Tested by Style Editors
Fit and fabric are the key to staying cool in the heat.
WHEN SUMMER TEMPS start climbing, I get why shorts are tempting, but there are plenty of days when I still want to wear pants without feeling overheated. The key is finding a pair that feels just as easy and breathable to get the job done. After testing dozens of styles, I found the best summer pants are made with lightweight materials like linen, seersucker, and cotton that keep you cool whether you’re commuting to the office, the beach, and everywhere in between.

What to Consider
Fabric
For summer pants, fabric matters just as much, if not more, than the fit. You want materials that breathe, wick away sweat, and keep you cool without clinging to the body.
Linen
The king of summer fabrics. Light, airy, and ultra-breathable. Wrinkles easily—but that’s part of the charm (embrace the rumpled, relaxed vibe). This material is great for beach days, casual outings, and linen-blend office pants.
Cotton
Natural and breathable. Poplin is smooth and crisp, while twill has a bit more structure. Can feel heavier if it’s not blended, so lighter weaves are key. Cotton is best for everyday chinos, casual workwear, elevated joggers. We also love how cotton can be easily made with elastane or spandex to produce four-way stretch fabric.
Linen-Cotton Blends
The best of both worlds. Less wrinkly than 100% linen but still breezy. Feels polished and soft with that signature summer texture.
Seersucker
Seersucker is a type of cloth weaved to be lightweight, thin, and breathable. Usually in stripes, but modern brands are remixing it now. The fabric has a puckered or crinkled texture that creates space sits off the skin, so air can circulate. While the material's sweat-wicking property is up to debate, we do know for sure from testing is that the uneven texture decreases the fabric's contact with the skin, thus lessening any "clammy" feeling, even though you might be perspiring.
Nylon
The activewear material is a beast at beating the heat. It's breathable and durable enough to be used in workout clothes and often has a tad of natural stretch. As a synthetic fabric, it's hydrophobic, meaning it can wick away sweat and dry fast in a heartbeat. Nylon can be found in hiking pants, chinos, or any sort of travel pants.
Waistband
Summer pants for men come with a relaxed vibe, even when getting into formalwear. Which is why the drawstring waistband works so well in this category. Drawstrings have steadily transitioned from leisure and athletic apparel to casual and even dressy menswear over the past decade. These days, it is totally acceptable to wear a pair of drawstring trousers with a button down and blazer to a semi-formal occasion.
Fit
Slim Fit
Tapered through the thigh and calf with a close fit that skims the leg. This fit is clean, modern, and tailored without being skinny or restrictive. It looks great on guys with lean or athletic builds looking to pull off dressed-up casual looks.
Regular Fit
Straight through the seat and thigh with a leg opening that’s not too wide or narrow. It's a timeless, classic fit that looks great on all body types, especially if you’re not into trends but want to look sharp.
Relaxed Fit
More room in the thigh and seat, with a slight taper or straight leg down. Relaxed fit is great for bigger thighs, or anyone prioritizing comfort without going full streetwear.
How We Selected
We weren’t just looking for “nice” summer pants, we wanted the ones you’ll actually reach for when it’s hot, humid, and you still want to look put-together. So, we tested pairs during office commutes, summer vacations, and weekend outings. We focused on lightweight, breathable fabrics, smart fits that don’t suffocate your thighs, and styles that flex from casual to kinda dressy. Bottom line? If the pants didn’t keep us cool and looking sharp, they didn’t make the cut.

These are hands down the most comfortable summer pants I’ve tested. The linen-cotton blend has the airy, breathable feel of linen but the softness of cotton, while the relaxed, tapered fit gives your legs plenty of room to move without ever looking oversized. I found myself reaching for them whether I was lounging at home, exploring a new city, or heading out to dinner because they simply never felt restrictive.
The relaxed silhouette offers extra room through the seat and legs before tapering neatly toward the ankle, giving them a clean shape that works just as well with sneakers as it does with loafers or sandals. They’re also my go-to alternative to heavier chinos when I’m traveling. They pack easily, keep me cooler in hot weather, and are polished enough that I don’t need to bring a second pair of pants. After testing plenty of summer styles, these are the pair I keep coming back to because they deliver the best mix of comfort, versatility, and effortless style.
The relaxed, tapered silhouette is what really won me over. There’s plenty of room through the seat and legs, so nothing feels restrictive, but the subtle taper and ankle-length cut keep them looking clean instead of oversized. I wore them with everything from sneakers to loafers and sandals, and the proportions always felt right. They’re also my favorite alternative to heavier chinos when I’m traveling. They pack lighter, breathe better, and still look polished enough that I never felt underdressed.
