Ben Shephard has completed the gruelling 24-hour World's Toughest Mudder alongside his son and godsons. The Built For Life co-host, 51, took on the event with his son Sam and godsons Finn and Ben, describing it as 'tough, relentless, brutal, muddy, heart breaking, wet, soul destroying and then ultimately euphoric.'
Shephard wrote in a Facebook post: 'My son Sam and my godsons Finn and Ben were the best team mates ever. The fact that they were willing to entertain doing something so ridiculous to keep me happy is something I'll never take for granted.'
He added that the team were 'definitely questioning their choices around 4.15am', but said sharing a sunrise lap with his son at 4.30am was something he would never forget.
World's Toughest Mudder is a 24-hour obstacle race that challenges competitors to complete as many laps as possible of a course featuring mud, water and physical obstacles.
'The course, the challenge, the physicality is off the charts,' Shephard said. 'But the community, the volunteers and the team spirit from every single competitor and pit crew member is definitely what keeps us coming back.'
It's not the kind of challenge most people need to sign up for, but whether it's a 24-hour obstacle race or your first 5k, having a goal, training consistently and surrounding yourself with a supportive community can make difficult things feel far more achievable.
Shephard finished by thanking the Tough Mudder team, volunteers and fellow competitors for 'memories and bruises we'll never forget.'
