After the excitement of the 2027 London Marathon being confirmed as a two-day event, the next big question is this: when do the ballot results come out?

When Will You Hear Back From the London Marathon?

When Hugh Brasher, CEO of London Marathon Events, went on the Runner’s World podcast, he said the results would be announced on 14 July.

However, this morning, London Marathon Events has revealed on Instagram that the ballot results will be landing today (9 July). Time to start refreshing your inbox.

What Time Do the London Marathon Ballot Results Come Out?

If you thought the lack of formal date was frustrating, then there being no precise time for when the ballot results go live will make those impatient for info even more perplexed. However, everyone who entered the ballot for next year’s event – all 1,338,544 of them – will receive the news (good or bad) via email, so once the results start coming out, people do tend to hear throughout that same day.

How Many Ballot Places Are There for the London Marathon 2027?

The exact number of ballot places that are available for the 2027 London Marathon hasn’t been disclosed (and hasn't been information made available in the past). However, going by previous editions of the race, we know that when the London Marathon is a single-day event there are approximately 17,000 to 20,000 ballot places available. With 2027 being a two-day event, we’d expect those same numbers to apply to each day (allowing for some variation as there are different numbers of people running on the Saturday versus the Sunday). Going by those numbers, it’s safe to assume that there will be 34,000 to 40,000 ballot places for the 2027 London Marathon.

What Are the Odds of Getting a London Marathon Ballot Place?

Since the 2027 London Marathon will be a two-day event, with an average field of 50,000 runners each day, the odds of getting a place are currently sitting at 7.47%, or one in 13. This is a marked improvement on your 1.49% – or one in 67 – chance of getting a ballot place if it was just a one-day affair.
