The 6 Pieces of Gear Pro Skater Nyjah Huston Can't Live Without

Entering his third decade of competition, these are the mainstays in his skate bag.

By

IF TONY HAWK is the Michael Jordan of professional skateboarding, Nyjah Huston is the LeBron James—arriving after the sport’s GOAT to carry it forward with a career just as prolific. Since going pro at the age of eleven, Huston has won more Street League Skateboarding events than any other skater—including seven SLS Super Crown championships. He also won a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, adding an Olympic podium to a career already defined by consistent victories at the highest level of professional skateboarding.

However, this commitment to competition comes with a few unintended consequences. “It just takes a lot for me to relax,” Huston tells Men’s Health. “That's why I have such a hard time with injuries because I'm always needing to be on my feet or be active.” To prevent such setbacks, you can expect to see him doing a lot of stretching at the skatepark. And don’t be surprised if it’s near an overflowing car trunk, as he says it’s always stocked before a skate session.

You’ll often find many expected essentials inside, like a skate tool, wax, backup shirts (usually thrifted), and boards, but Huston also likes to travel with a soccer ball to warm up with or a basketball for killing time between shoots. That’s on top of enough skincare products to make this grooming editor proud. But the mainstays never change. Below are six go-tos you’ll always find in Huston’s skate bag or trunk.

Five years ago, Huston started his own skateboard brand, Disorder, which came together, as he puts it, homie style. The purpose behind the brand was threefold. First, he wanted a sponsor outlet to help promote other skaters he felt deserved more shine. Then, it was about making the best boards possible with the highest quality wood so that they’d both perform and last. Finally, he wanted to create great graphics based on art that inspired him. Today, these are the only boards he’ll ride.

As a professional athlete, Huston needs a solid deodorant more than anyone, but he’s long struggled to find one whose protection lasts. Ever the entrepreneur, he launched his own brand to remedy that. As a lover of hiking, camping, and dirtbiking, he also wanted to inspire people to spend more time outside and encourage them to take a break from screens. “Even off my board, my favorite thing to do is spend time out in nature… That's what Out There is all about.”

Board graphics aren’t the only artwork Nyjah Huston cares about—he’s also a big fan (and owner) of body art. This sunscreen has quickly become his go-to SPF for keeping his skin protected from UV rays. “It’s a clear sunscreen, and it’s amazing stuff. I’m always in the sun, so gotta protect the tats,” he says.

Skateboarding is already one helluva workout, but when you do it under the blistering California sun every day, it can be a recipe for dehydration. That’s where electrolytes come in. Huston calls these the best electrolytes he’s ever used. “And this is important to help us try our tricks and keep that session going for as long as possible,” he says.

Beyond hard falls and repeated collisions with pavement, the movements involved in skateboarding place heavy stress on the joints, muscles, and bones. For recovery, Huston relies on this compression tech to keep his body fresh and loose. It doesn't hurt that our own fitness editors love the Hyperice Normatec offerings either.

As Huston explains it, sometimes skateboarding is hanging out, watching your buddy try to nail a trick for hours on end. During these sessions, it helps to have something comfortable to sit on. Huston always has this camping chair in his trunk for moments like these.
