Colman Domingo has opened up about getting his testosterone levels checked after turning 50, revealing that concerns about ageing and body image led him to seek medical advice.
MH’s June cover star says that, despite being in strong physical shape, he still questioned whether his body was changing as he got older.
Domingo said that as he entered his fifties, he started wondering whether he needed help maintaining his physique.
‘You look at your lean self and your very natural self and you think, well, maybe I could use a boost,’ he says.
The actor decided to speak to a doctor and undergo testosterone testing – something increasing numbers of men are doing as conversations around hormone health and TRT (testosterone replacement therapy) become more common.
But Domingo says the results surprised him.

‘I went to a doctor to see if I would qualify for or need more testosterone, and he told me my testosterone levels were as high as they were when I was 16.’
Rather than chasing size in the gym, Domingo says his priorities have shifted towards longevity, recovery and flexibility. The 56-year-old now focuses more heavily on cardio-based training and maintaining a lean physique.
Recovery has also become a bigger part of his routine in recent years.
‘Rest and recovery have become increasingly important in his life,’ Domingo says. ‘Because I travel so much, I need that.’
