We’ve been on a ride with The Boys—Prime Video’s sharp-witted, ultra-violent, and very funny superhero satire—for nearly seven years now, and, for those of us who’ve been following from the beginning, that’s long enough to really feel like we know these characters well. We’ve got characters like Hughie, Annie, and Mother’s Milk who’ve remained true to their selves and their morals from the very beginning. We’ve got vile beings like Homelander and The Deep who only ever care about preserving their twisted senses of self-worth. And we’ve got characters like Billy Butcher and A-Train who have genuinely changed and evolved over the course of the show. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
What makes The Boys such a good show is that we’ve got such a wide array of people, storylines, and moments in the show that help this world feel recognizable to us. Sure, the fact that things from our world—like Kendall Jenner’s infamous Pepsi ad—are referenced regularly. But The Boys has succeeded, through the course of its run, in building out a world that feels lived-in and self-assured. Everything happening, good and bad, makes sense.
And, now, after five season of The Boys (and two seasons of Gen V, the spinoff series set in the same universe), things are finally coming to an end. We’ll see our heroes take on our villains one last time—but who knows how this twisted and often blood-filled story will really wind up.
In fact, there’s really only one thing we do know for sure: There’s going to be blood. A whole lot of blood. Whether it’s going to be the blood of the good guys or the bad guys, well, that much remains a mystery.
