BELMONT CAMELI IS no stranger to the gym. The 28-year-old has been pumping iron for over a decade, though his workouts have somewhat changed since his high school football days. After all, the actor needed to bulk up while simultaneously learning to ice skate since landing the role of Garrett Graham in Amazon Prime’s new steamy hockey hit Off Campus. He couldn’t just skitter across the ice for the role, either—he had to master his skates. After all, Garrett is captain of the Briar University hockey team.
“The hockey player body type is not really one thing,” Cameli told MH, echoing what fellow TV hockey heartthrob Hudson Williams shared when he demonstrated his workout. “As far as physique goes, my goal is not to drop down to five or six percent body fat. It’s just been to put on mass.” He said packing on muscle is important since hockey players regularly take hits during games. Those physical demands are still important, even when playing a fictional hockey star.
“I take hits all the time because I skate fast into the boards,” he explained. “Because sometimes I can’t stop. The more meat I have on my bones, the safer I am.”
And in the spirit of building more mass, Cameli shared that the production studio recently built a new gym on the Off Campus set, giving him more opportunities to workout between filming with his castmates. “We’re going to be in there sweating and slapping asses. It’s going to be awesome.”
