BACK HAIR HAS, traditionally, gotten a pretty bad rap. Many might find hairy chests attractive (thankfully), but hairy backs seem to never be in vogue. The issue is that to get rid of it, you usually need an extra pair of hands to either wax, shave, or trim it for you. That is, before back shavers entered the chat, of course.

Best Back Shavers for Men

To be clear, there is nothing wrong with having back hair, despite what every show about dating in New York will tell you (I’ll never forgive Sex and the City for what it did to the hairy community). Still, this is nothing to be ashamed of (or a reason not to date somebody, Charlotte).

Think about it, if a dude grows hair on his face or chest, why would it ignore his back? And just like a sturdy electric razor, beard trimmer, or body groomer is enough to easily manage and style face and chest hair without assistance, so too can a back shaver for your back hair.

When choosing a back shaver, you’ll want to consider many of the same factors you do for the razor you use on your face, except for one main thing: you can’t see your back. Unless you’re a contortionist, this leaves you with essentially two options: have somebody shave it for you or use a back shaving device made specifically for DIY jobs. This list focuses solely on the latter, but these tools can often feel a bit daunting, so here’s what to keep in mind before investing in one.

What To Consider

Manual or Electric

Basically, you have the choice between two options: traditional blades and electric razors. The benefit of manual razors is that they tend to shave closer, and you can use other products like shaving creams with them. The downside, of course, is that they’re easier to cut and nick yourself with, especially on an area like your back that you can’t see very easily. Plus, they’ll need to be changed more often. Electric razors, on the other hand, are generally safer when it comes to the risk of cutting yourself, but don’t shave as closely.

Size and Length

You’ll notice all of the shavers on this list have long handles, which allow you to reach your back easily, even if you have dexterity issues. But depending on your flexibility and wingspan, you’ll want to consider exactly how long your back shaver is.

If you have particularly short arms or struggle to touch your toes like me (I really need to revisit doing yoga), look to the longer options (on this list, like theBakblade 2.0 or Bro Shaver 3.0. These are both above 15 inches, which is the minimum length you should be looking for if you struggle with flexibility, as it will allow you to reach your back without much twisting and turning.

Water Resistance

Many guys like to manscape in the shower and that goes for shaving their backs as well. It makes cleanup easy, and some would say the steam and water help soften skin for shaving. Where you shave your back is a personal choice, but keep in mind that if you favor an in-shower shave, you’ll need to get a waterproof model.

How We Selected

For the past year, I consulted with my fellow Men's Health editors and writers on the best-performing back shavers for men. Based on my experience as a grooming editor and user feedback from top-rated models on ecommerce sites we trust, I was able to narrow down my search to which options were worth considering.

I then tested each selected model and evaluated its effectiveness, durability, price point, ease of use, and whether or not I threw out my back in the shaving process. After this extensive review (and some mild injuries), I determined the following five products to be the absolute best back shavers for men in 2026.

2.0 Elite Plus Back Shaver for Men

Pros

  • Includes exfoliating back brush
  • Holds three blades
  • Foldable design
  • Comfortable rubber handle

Cons

  • Narrow blades
  • Can be difficult to apply the right amount of pressure

If you have an extra hairy back, this back shaver is for you. Armed with a row of three blades that catch every hair in its path, the Bakblade 2.0 gives you the cleanest and closest shave possible. It can be used wet or dry, and the blades are easy to replace when they start to get dull, which takes way longer than your standard facial razors, to be clear. The exfoliating brush preps and primes your skin to ensure a smooth surface for the blades to glide across. Bakblade also offers a 3.0, but I prefer the 2.0—it’s slightly easier to use and covers more ground. Plus, it’s less expensive.

Testing Notes: Whenever you’re shaving your back, you have to heed George Michael’s advice and have faith on some level. Since you can’t see exactly where you’re shaving, especially if you’re not using a mirror, you have to go by feel and fly by the seat of your pants to an extent. This back shaving device attempts to minimize this stress and make back shaving easy, and it accomplishes that very well.

The ergonomic, foldable design features an 18-inch handle, so you can pretty much reach the entirety of your back. There are three wide blades that actually do make shaving easier with fewer strokes. You should still go slow, though, because these are razor blades touching your back—the risk of scratches is high. The brand says you can shave wet or dry with this, which is true, but I would recommend using it wet with shaving cream to help cut down on cuts and irritation.

Most Versatile Back Shaver

Mangroomer Ultimate Pro Back Shaver

Ultimate Pro Back Shaver

Pros

  • 1.8 inch ultra wide back groomer blade
  • Fully extendable and adjustable handle locks at any angle you want
  • Easy and fast re-charging
  • 135-degree opening

Cons

  • Blades dull quickly

This electric shaver is thoughtfully designed to reach all those awkward places you can't reach with just a regular razor. It includes two interchangeable attachment shaving heads, an extendable ergonomic rubberized handle, and an added Power Burst button, which offers an added surge of power at the click of a button, to easily cut down extra thick and coarse hair when faced with initial resistance.

Testing Notes: Design-wise, this shaver is similar to the Bakblade. It’s a long foldable handle, and I found that the lock button that allows you to keep it at any angle you want is an ideal function to help effectively shave your whole back. This shaver is electric and features both a trimmer head and a foil shaver head that allows you to get a baby-smooth shave without additional products.

The rubber handle near the blades allowed for the blade to adjust to the contours of my body, something that saved us time and muscle strain. I also dug the multiple heads because options are always welcome. On days I just wanted to do a quick job without worrying too much about closeness, I’d use the trimmer head. When I had more time on my hands or wanted a closer shave, I’d opt for the foil.

Best Back Shaver for the Least Flexible

Bro Shaver 3.0

3.0
Best Back Shaver for the Least Flexible

Bro Shaver 3.0

Pros

  • Can be used with any double edge safety razors
  • Ergonomic handle
  • 20 inches long for minimal stretching
  • Two shave settings for thin or thick hair

Cons

  • Thin handle may break if using too much force

This back shaver is the least intimidating of the bunch. Two safety razors slide into the razor head and provide a decent surface area to shave your entire back in just a few minutes. Unlike some back shavers that make you buy special razors, this one is made to be used with your standard double-edge safety razor, which are fairly cheap to buy.

Simply replace the two blades and your back shaver is as good as new. But what really stands out about the Bro Shaver is how long the handle is. At nearly two feet, even the least flexible men among us (read: me) will have no problem shaving every corner of their back.

Testing Notes: Think of this as a back scrubber brush with a blade attached. It’s a simple design—a long handle that doesn’t fold—but this lack of bells and whistles is welcomed because it makes a pretty gnarly task feel a little simpler. Shaving with the Bro Shaver, by far, took the least stretching compared to any other options on this list.

If you can reach your arms an inch above your head, you can easily shave your back with this thing. I also dug the protected blades of this shaver, which helped minimize any nicks and cuts.

Body Groomer 7000 Series

Pros

  • Can trim entire body with various attachments
  • Waterproof
  • Includes travel pouch

Cons

  • Doesn't get as close as cartridge razors

I’m always drawn to grooming tools that can handle multiple jobs. That’s one of the reasons I like the Philips Norelco Bodygroom 7000. I use it on my chest, stomach, groin, arms, and legs, which means I can tackle nearly all my body-grooming needs with a single device.

The dual-sided design is especially useful: one side features a foil shaver for a close finish, while the other houses an adjustable trimmer that lets me tidy up hair without taking it all the way down to the skin. Most importantly, the 7000 comes with a back attachment that makes it much easier to reach areas that would otherwise require help from a partner.

Testing Notes: The back attachment snaps easily allowing me to reach my entire back with ease. It consistently cut through coarse body hair without pulling or snagging. The foil shaver left behind a smooth finish—although it wasn’t as close as other manual options on this list—while the trimmer was great when I wanted to do a quick job, leaving just some stubble behind. Because the device is fully waterproof, I used it both at the sink and in the shower without any issues.

Best Budget Back Shaver

Bearback Body and Back Shaver

Body and Back Shaver

Pros

  • Under $25
  • One of the longest options available despite lower cost
  • Stainless steal blades

Cons

  • Handle is somewhat flimsy

If you've never used a back shaver before and are somewhat apprehensive about the idea, you probably don't want to drop $50 on a tool. That's what makes the Bearback an appealing option. At barely over $20, it's a great introduction to back shaving without breaking the bank. Not to mention, it also does a quality job shaving.

Testing Notes: Without any bells or whistles, I still found Bearback to provide a decent shave. The stainless steel blades handle thick hair well and simply took care of the job. Armed with a 17-inch handle, this is a no-frills back shaver that didn't take much strain to complete the process either. That being said, the plastic design is a bit flimsy, so if you tend to apply decent amounts of pressure when shaving your back, you might want to look elsewhere.
