The 8 Best Hand Creams for Men in 2026, Tested by Grooming Experts

Working with your hands doesn’t need to end with dryness.

DESPITE COMING FROM a long line of laborers, I would never be mistaken for a handyman. Not just because I struggle with the most basic household projects (did everybody know mini-splits had filters?), but because my hands are far too soft. This is by design. Just like how I use a daily moisturizer to hydrate my face and a body lotion to prevent dryness all over, I rely on hand cream to keep my skin smooth.

Best Hand Creams for Men

None of this is to say that my hands never see rough work or get dry and cracked. Before I moved to New York City, I was always working on old cars (because I couldn’t afford anything else), and no tool was better at repairing my admittedly too-delicate-for-manual-labor hands. Using a quality hand cream is essential for keeping your mitts healthy, especially with daily exposure to harsh weather, sun, frequent washing, and physical wear.

Regular use helps maintain moisture, improve skin elasticity, and prevent dryness, cracking, and irritation. Unlike lighter lotions, hand creams provide deeper hydration and create a protective barrier that locks in moisture and shields the skin from damage. In short, making hand cream part of your daily routine keeps your hands soft, resilient, and looking well-groomed year-round.

What to Consider

Ingredients

Depending on your primary concern, you’ll want to zero in on specific ingredients in your hand cream. Below are the most common concerns and the ingredients that best meet those needs.

  • Dryness: You will need the best source of hydration, which will be derived from humectants, such as aloe vera, glycerin, and hyaluronic acid. They attract and bind water to your skin, increasing its moisture. Also, keep an eye out for emollients like argan oil, dimethicone, shea butter, squalane, and petrolatum. These ingredients create a physical barrier over the surface of the skin to prevent water loss and lock in hydration.
  • Wrinkles: The skin on top of the hands is very delicate and prone to showing early signs of aging. While some of the same anti-aging ingredients found in face products can also be effective for the hands, the combinations may vary. To help the skin stay soft and youthful, look for the following ingredients: retinol, vitamin C, vitamin E, lactic acid, and niacinamide.
  • Dark spots and discoloration: The best way to prevent discoloration on the skin is by protecting yourself from long bouts of sun exposure. For this, be sure to apply sunscreen over your hands after your cream. Ingredients like niacinamide, vitamin C, and licorice root extract in the hand cream can also help brighten the skin and fade dark spots over time.

Size

When it comes to skincare products, the container’s size is one of those things you probably don’t consider until it’s too late. This usually dawns on me whenever I’m packing and realize nothing I own is TSA-friendly. To avoid my ritual of chaotically rushing to the nearest drugstore to overpay for a travel bottle, buy something 3.4 oz or smaller to begin with if you’re a frequent flyer. On the opposite end of the spectrum, those who know they’ll be using the same cream every day at home should look for the largest bottle for the best possible value.

Scent

For those of us with sensitive skin, the question of fragrance will always be paramount. If your skin is easily irritated, I would look only for unscented options. That’s not to say we should all avoid fragrance. I can get away from some scent, as my hands aren’t nearly as sensitive as my face or scalp. Still, this requires its own thought process. You’ll want to keep in mind your other daily fragrances—colognes, deodorants, body wash, etc.—and look for options that will complement these scents, rather than clash with them.

How We Selected

As a grooming editor, I regularly test hand creams of all kinds, from new launches to tried-and-true staples. With normal-to-dry, sensitive skin, I’m able to evaluate how different formulas perform across a range of needs, paying close attention to ingredients, texture, absorption, and long-term results. Over time, I’ve revisited top picks and compared notes with fellow editors to identify the hand creams that consistently deliver hydration, comfort, and reliable performance. After testing over 25 hand creams over the past year, I landed on these eight as the best options for men.

Aesop Resurrection Aromatique Hand Balm

Pros

  • Leaves skin feeling soft
  • Smells amazing
  • Delivers rich hydration with each application
  • Travel-friendly

Cons

  • The most expensive option on this list

Aesop’s Resurrection Aromatique Hand Balm delivers on every front I look for in a hand cream. It absorbs effortlessly into my skin, leaving behind a smooth, clean finish, while ingredients like glycerin, shea butter, and sweet almond oil lock in moisture and keep my hands feeling soft and nourished.

The scent is just as impressive, blending mandarin, rosemary, and cedarwood into a fresh, herbal fragrance that feels subtle yet elevated. I only need about a dime-sized amount of the stuff, and it spreads easily without leaving any residue, yet keeps my hands feeling supple for hours, even in the harshest conditions.

Cons

  • One of the more expensive options on this list

I only need a dime-sized amount of this cream, two or three times a day, and my dry, even cracked hands are relieved in a couple of days. The formula feels rich and creamy but absorbs quickly, leaving my hands hydrated without any greasy residue. It also, crucially, never leaves my hands feeling sticky or clammy. Duke Cannon Bloody Knuckles Hand Balm (2-Pack)

Pros

  • One of the largest containers on this list
  • Safe for sensitive skin
  • Smooth texture

Cons

  • Too large to fly with

Before I discovered how easy it was to introduce cream into my routine, my hands would get so dry, especially during the cooler months, and start to bleed, giving the impression I had recently been involved in a brawl. Duke Cannon understands that, while this image did help offset my unimposing frame, it wasn’t a healthy habit.

With Bloody Knuckles Hand Balm, my hands remain soft and smooth, without any signs of apparent violence, thanks to a soothing glycerin, shea butter, and jojoba seed oil formula. It also has one of the most interesting textures on this list, initially feeling almost like marshmallow before melting into your hands and quickly absorbing into the skin. Best part, it’s completely unscented and safe for sensitive skin.
